BARF Diet – supplemental information:With processed pet foods coming under attack in the news, we’re not surprised. It’s what we’ve known all along! We sing the praises of the BARF diet and for good reason. The Biologically Appropriate Raw Food Diet represents an evolutionary diet, a natural diet, and a species appropriate diet. Here’s the key – it replicates the evolutionary diet. It creates a situation to maximize good health and longevity. The BARF diet is fresh, raw, and down to the root. Think of it this way: cooked food produces carcinogens. As a result of cooking, amino acids and vitamins become difficult to digest and defeats the purpose of the very definition of the BARF diet: it’s raw approach to a healthy diet. Raw foods are nutritiously rich. Rich with equipping your pet with evolutionary foods such as alfalfa leaf and kelp. It eliminates the concept of processed foods. Dry processed foods are just that: processed. They take a very long time to digest in the system whereas wholesome foods are close to the root. Close to the earth. Dr. Billinghurst’s BARF Diet mimics raw whole foods not unlike the food digested by dogs ancestors. Food encompassed in the BARF diet consists of the same exact balance and ingredients such as muscle meat, fat, organ meat, and vegetable materials. While dogs today may seem modern and advanced, they’re still capable to eating food of their ancestors. In fact, it’s a requirement for their health! Although over the years dogs have become domesticated more significantly than their ancestors, their dietary needs still require nutrients. As for concerns about bacteria often found in raw food, dogs have actually evolved to eat various food with bacteria which actually helps strengthen their immune system. Now, we’re not saying to directly feed your dog full of bacteria. We’re simply saying the BARF diet is safe for your dog. If you weren’t concerned about your dog eating commercially processed pet food with countless chemicals lacking pure ingredients, well, any slight concerns about bacteria are a non-issue. The BARF diet is much safer. And yes, while the BARF Diet contains bones, consider this: it’s natural for dogs and cats to eat bones. While they are domesticated pets, they’re also physiologically designed to use bones as its main source of minerals such as calcium and phosphorous. As for your safety? Fear not. If you’ve ever prepared a chicken or turkey dinner, you know to thoroughly wash your hands before and after handling the meat. The BARF Diet is no different; wash your hands before touching the food. Be sure to clean knives, surfaces, and utensils when you prepare your pets food. For instance, stainless steel usually works best. In addition, when you’re storing your pets food, keep it away from human food and store it in the refrigerator after thawing for two to three days. Since BARF diets are packaged in patties weighing 8 oz. (each bag contains 12 patties), they’re easy to store in your freezer. The sturdy poly packaging reduces environmental waste and they’re dated. Since BARF World recommends feeding puppies up to 10% of their body weight and feeding adult dogs between 2 – 3 % of their body weight, they’ll begin the journey to a healthier, more nutritious diet. After all, the BARF diet also includes green vegetables. They’re low in starch and sugars yet full of enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins, fatty acids (the good kind), and minerals. Essentially, the BARF Diet which combines protein and fat, will equip your dog or cat with a nutritiously rich regimen. Unlike dry pet food where most of the consumption is carbohydrates (i.e., starch and added sugar), the BARF Diet is whole. It’s raw. Nutritiously designed to create a healthy diet.
