The BARF Diet – yet another reason to convert

As a responsible pet owner, you can’t help but wonder. With pet food recalls making headlines such as more than 60 million cans and pouches of dog and cat food being recalled sold under dozens of brand names, we’re convinced.

Actually, we were convinced prior to hearing the recent news that specific canned foods were linked to numerous deaths in cats and dogs. With a healthy food like the BARF diet, your dog or cat will be consuming wholesome ingredients linked to proper nutrition. No additives. No preservatives. There’s nothing unhealthy about BARF.

For instance, in the situation sited above food was manufactured by Menu Foods which also makes food for other companies such as a unit of Procter & Gamble, Nestle Purina PetCare and Hills Pet Nutrition. While Menu Foods is recalling specific gravy-style pet food in cans and pouches, apparently the test of its food had failed to identify issues with the products. On the contrary, the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet, or BARF diet, follows the philosophy that every animal on earth requires a biological diet; the diet consists of food without any preservatives or additives. In fact, a biologically appropriate diet is just that; BARF is a raw diet that maximizes health and longevity. Think of it this way: commercial dog and cat food can be categorized as kibble and canned. Kibble represents the dry food or moist pellets and biscuits with a cereal base, meat by-products, and countless additives. Water must always be available to your pet when you’re serving kibble.

Meat by-products and vegetables, pre-cooked and ready to serve food encompasses canned food. Again, canned food typically contains additives which manufacturers add to the food. While a BARF diet consists of raw food, some owners may worry if the presence of bacteria will harm their pet. Keep in mind, with the evolution of time dogs have evolved to eat food which has contained bacteria which has only strengthened their immune system. In the wild, dogs often eat soil, contaminated meat, infected meat, etc. Essentially, bacteria in raw meat have no impact literally to almost all of the dogs eating a raw food diet. While we’re not endorsing bacteria in your dog’s food, we are saying that dogs who have eaten commercial pet food will be safe in eating a clean raw food diet.
