Bad food for dogs:

By now you’ve heard about the BARF diet, the evolutionary diet for dogs and cats.  Full of protein, water, and raw food, it’s healthy.  It’s nutritious. It’s what your dog was programmed to eat.

That said, while we know what to feed our dogs for a nutritious diet, there are several items to be avoided. Whether you’re slipping these “treats” to Fido or your family members are, it’s important to note there is bad food for dogs. Just like you wouldn’t sit in front of the television eating an entire cake, neither should your dog.

In general, the following list is bad food for dogs: sweets, fats, spicy food, sauces/condiments, and chemicals and additives but this is typically in processed foods.  Whereas you may be tempted to give Fido a piece of chocolate which encompasses sweets in the list of bad food for dogs, you wouldn’t open a can of chemicals and give it to your dog.  (It’s embedded already in the processed food!)  Even if you’re eating chicken on the bone, you may think it’s ok to give your dog the bone after you’ve finished eating.  Bad food for your dog!  This should be avoided.  The cooked chicken bone may tend to splinter and consequently choke your dog, or not be digested once it has entered the body.

Bad food for dogs results in bad nutrition which causes several ailments.  For instance, chronic gastritis is the result of intolerance to certain foods or a problem with parasites.  If a dog has been fed rotten food, grease, or leftovers, watch out!  In addition, some dogs like to scour the trash for food. This behavior can result in rotten and toxic substances.

Another result of bad food for dogs is diarrhea.  Even the slightest change in your dog’s diet may result in diarrhea.  Therefore, consistency is key.  If your dog’s diet abruptly changes, his stomach won’t have the necessary time to adjust in particular if it’s eaten bad food for dogs.  If the diarrhea continues longer than twenty-four hours, it’s time to call your veterinarian.

If the bad food for dog includes commercial food, your dog may have developed an allergy which is caused by an immune system’s overreaction to specific allergens.  Symptoms include hair loss, hives, and gastrointestinal distressed long with skin irritation on the paws, ears, face, and abdomen.

Essentially, nutrition is a key component to your dog’s overall health. Bad food for your dog should be excluded from your dog’s diet. As for the good news?  Good food for your diet includes the healthy diet of BARF.
