  • Spay or neuter your pet.  According to the ASPCA, this is preventive medicine which result in good health for your pet.  Spaying encompasses removing the ovaries and uterus of a female dog or cat, thereby helping prevent breast cancer and uterus infections, and stops the animal from going into heat.  It’s also been known that aggressive behavior in males can be reduced by neutering.
  • Vaccinations.  Cats are supposed to receive a variety of vaccinations such as rabies vaccination, and one that protects against feline calicivirus, rhinotracheitis, and panleukopenia.  Dogs are supposed to receive vaccinations against a variety of infections diseases such as distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, and also rabies. Proper vaccinations can equate to good health for your pet.
  • See your vet!  Another way for a lifetime of your pet’s good health is going to the veterinarian regularly.  Annual checkups not only check out your dog or cat’s temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate, it also helps check out the gums, teeth, heart, and lungs.
  • Fight fleas – ugh!  That’s all we have to say.  When fighting fleas you’ll need to treat all of the pets in the household not just the ones who have fleas.
  • Prevent heartworm – this is easily preventable and can lead to good health for your pet. Your dog can be given a blood test for heartworm and vets may prescribe a preventive tablet to be taken monthly through mosquito season.
  • Move more!  Daily exercise and training will keep your pet physically fit and mentally healthy (and it’ll do wonders for you too!) It will burn up calories, increase cardiovascular strength, and will help channel aggressive behavior.
  • Battle the bulge – excess weight can easily cause health problems and overweight pets have an increased rish of surgery. Obese cats can develop a form of diabetes.
  • Do a weekly health check for a lifetime of good health for your dog or cat. Regular home checkups will help catch potential health issues before they become problems.
  • Know what to avoid.  The list (click here to see more about toxic items) includes coffee, chocolate, macadamia nuts, moldy food, onions, raisins, and grape for instance.  That said, know which foods to focus on for good health such as the BARF diet, a nutritiously rich regimen to help boost your dog or cat’s health and energy.
  • Watch the teeth and breath! If your pet has bad breath it could be a sign of a digestive problem.  And also treat the teeth and gums to prevent infection.
