Dog Medicine:If you remember when you were a child and your mother had to give you gross medicine, whether it was pink or even in a pill, well, you’re not alone. Imagine the anxiety and fear your dog must face when your veterinarian prescribes a medicine that you must administer to your precious pooch. In order to properly administer dog medicine, there are some “tricks” to keep the anxiety low and get it “down the hatch” so to speak. Or to literally lift the dog’s lip with its head tilted back so you pour the medicine in. When it comes to dog medicine tablets, your dog needs to open a mouth so this itself may become a struggle. Try to pry the mouth open with one hand while sticking the tablet inside the mouth with the other while massaging the throat. The good thing about dog medicine tablets is they can be inserted inside a piece of food. Note: swallowing indeed is important. Similar to how your dog may try to fool you and spit it out later, you may be happy to finally have the tablet in his mouth but he may hide it and not even swallow! Regarding oral solutions, experts recommend using a syringe. By opening the mouth and using the syringe for small doses near the lip, you should be able to get the liquid medicine inside your dog. Another benefit of dog medicine drops is they can also be mixed with food. Lastly, simply feeding the dog medicine such as feeding your dog vitamins should be no different when administering dog medicine. If your dog is fine with vitamins, he should be accustomed to the act of ingesting a pill. While your dog may have an ailment which your veterinarian can help cure via dog medicine, above all, if your dog gets the proper nutrition with a balanced diet, plenty of water, exercise, and love, hopefully visits to the vet and dog medicine will be minimal.
