Road Trip!
So are you busy planning out your next road trip? Nothing is more fun than packing a bag, and seeing where the road takes you. We have a very beautiful country full of so many fascinating things to see. What better way to explore America's backcountry then with your dog! If you are going to be taking your dog on your next road trip than you need to make sure you follow our road trip dog guide to make sure your trip is both safe and enjoyable.
First Things First!
- Where are you going? Make sure you take the time out to research where you are going to go. AAA has great resources for planning your road trip, and they give out free advice and maps to members. You will also get great discounts on hotels and other attractions.
- Is your car okay? Make sure you get your car checked out and inspected by your mechanic. Also, it is a good idea to change your oil and get a tune up. You want to make sure that your car is in tiptop shape, so that you will be safe on your road trip.
- Bring a buddy! In addition to your dog, at least one other human being is a good idea to bring along. Not only will they help share the driving load, but they will give you added company as well. Nothing bonds people like a good road trip.

- Seat Belts! Everyone must where a seat belt—at all times! That includes your little friend. The Dog Bowl offers several dog car harnesses to choose from. It is very important for everyone's safety that seat belts are always worn. Although, your dog may think they need to hang their head out the window—they don't. So make sure you have a doggie seat belt for your next road trip adventure!
- Dog treats and food! You must make sure that you have enough dog treats and dog food to last your entire road trip. (The Dog Bowl recommends freeze dried foods - click here.) The simplest way to do this is to measure out into a Tupperware container, the amount of food you would use for everyday of your road trip, and then add a couple of more days just in case. Using the bag that your dog food comes in is not a good idea because the bag could break, and everything will end up smelling like dog food. Make sure you have a travel bowl to feed your dog too so that it won't break.
- First Aid! You are also going to want to make sure that for your road trip that you have a first aid kit for both people and dogs. The Dog Bowl sells a first aid kit that would be the perfect addition to any road trip.
- Where are you staying? Make sure you know ahead of time if the hotels you are planning on staying at are 'pet friendly.' You don't want to be surprised and have to leave your dog in the car! So make sure you are going to be staying at 'pet friendly' hotels. With a little extra planning your road trip will be 'pet friendly' all of the way!
