Poisonous plants to your cats:
As you know, being a responsible pet owner encompasses a variety of things. One of which for cat owners is ensuring there aren’t poisonous plants to your cat in the home. If you have any of the following plants, it’s do not pass go, do not collect $200. In other words, immediately discard the cat’s poisonous plant. Nothing is more important than your cat’s health and well being.
Sago Palm
Also known as cycas revolute are poisonous to your cat but in particular the seeds have the largest amount of toxin. If your cat ingests even one or two seeds, it’s game over. This can result in very serious effects like vomiting, diarrhea, depression, seizures, and liver failure.
Lilies
Sure, they’re pretty to look at but members of Lilium spp are incredibly toxic to cats. As for the result? Kidney damage. Although it’s unclear as to what part of the lily in particular is poisonous to your cat, trust us. It’s not a good flower to have at home.
Tulip
Gastrointestinal irritation, drooling, appetite loss, depression of the nervous system, convulsions and cardiac problems are results of toxins ingested from the tulip.
Azalea/Rhododendron
This plant contains grayantoxins which can produce negative effects similar to the sago palm. Several azalea poisoning could ultimately result in coma and death. Definitely not a poisonous plant you’d want your cat exposed to.
Oleandear
All parts of Nerium oleander are toxic since they contain cardiac glycosides that can cause serious side effects and even result in death.
Castor Bean
This poisonous plant to your cat should be disposed of immediately. It contains ricinus communis, a highly toxic protein that can result in a variety of horrible health problems like excessive thirst, loss of appetite, tremors, seizures, coma, and even death.
Cyclamen
In the root of the poisonous plant your cat will unfortunately find the highest concentration of the toxic component. Fatalities have been reported in some cases.
Kalanchoe
Say it isn’t so! This poisonous plant to your cat contains toxic components that have detrimental effects on the heart which can also impact cardiac rhythm and rates.
