Rottweiler:

Like a large mass of muscle, the rottweiler has a firm robust look.  Demure and fragile it is not; while it needs to be trained properly to be very disciplined, this somewhat stubborn breed requires an owner with a soft spot for underlying love while being firm and stern as it relates to training.  In fact, as a family dog the rottweiler is quiet, loyal, faithful, and affectionate, but make no mistake about it: they’re also great watchdogs since they have the ability to physically exert force.

Interestingly enough, the rottweiler has origins from the Roman Empire and is a descendant of dogs known to watch various herds.  They were adopted as defense dogs and are named after the city of Württemberg Rottweiler.  About one hundred years ago breeders decided to revive the breed which was on the verge of disappearing.  In Germany they were prevalent in World War I in both the army and police and could be seen by its signature docked tail.

In addition to the docked tail, the rottweiler’s signature look is black with tan or brown markings on its cheeks, chest, and legs.  Each eyebrow usually has a spot.  Another aspect is a wrinkly forehead.  The eyes are typically dark brown and while this dog usually expresses a calm temperament, it’s almost always alert and has a fearless quality about it. 

Since the rottweiler possesses an incredible strength as well as agility, this breed isn’t for everyone. It requires a responsible, diligent owner to socialize the dog properly and train it thoroughly. Plus, in the owner’s absence whoever is home must be able to control this dog. When trained properly this dog will be reliable and very alert, as well as a loyal part of the family.  If it is not trained properly it will become aggressive in the wrong types of circumstances.  Rottweilers for instance are playful by nature; in that sense they may seem high maintenance since they have high energy levels and need constant stimulation. If not, they will find ways to be destructive to either bide the time or get attention or both. For instance, they’ll chew excessively or bark.

To socialize and train this breed properly, the rottweiler should be exposed to adults, children, animals, and various circumstances early on.  Since it has a tendency to be over aggressive and act out, it’s important to control situations early on.  The rottweiler has an incredible prowess and may pose a threat to other animals and even people.  Since they’re  somewhat stubborn, they’ll need to be trained and treated in a stern manner. In other words, they need to know who’s boss!  If there’s any question in the matter, it ends up being a situation of dog training owner! 

Since they have a tendency to be aggressive, the responsible owner must be cognizant to devote a sufficient amount of time and energy to their rottweiler even after he or she has been properly trained. By nature it’s a guard dog so it should not be aroused by any way even in what may be construed as harmless play.
