Our dogs tell us they are vegetarians:

Wild dogs love to eat the stomach and intestinal contents of their prey. Warm, juicy and fermenting is how they ear their vegetable material. Modern dogs, given the opportunity, tell us exactly the same story. Our dogs also love fruit. They will scavenge the orchards, they will dine at the compost heap.

All of this is a request that non-starchy vegetables and fruit be included in their diet. They are asking for fruit that is ripe to over-ripe. They want their vegetables to be raw, but those veggies have to be pulverized until they resemble the gut contents of animals such as a sheep, rabbit or deer.

Apart from potatoes, the only vegetable your dog does NOT want to eat will be the onion. You dog will want the peas and beans (legumes) to be either cooked (not so good) or sprouted (excellent).

Our dogs are telling us that for tip top healthy they do need vegetable material, but it must be raw and it must be crushed or blended.
