Top 10 Reasons Pets are Taken to the Vet?

Ear infections were the top reason dogs were taken to the veterinarian in 2007, according to Veterinary Pet Insurance of Brea, California, which recently analyzed its medical claims received last year to determine the top 10 most commonly claimed conditions for dogs and cats. The top reason cats were taken to the veterinarian was urinary tract infections.

For both dogs and cats, the top 10 conditions accounted for about 25 percent of all medical claims received in 2007.

The biggest change on either list was feline enteritis, which jumped from number 16 in 2006 to number 4 in 2007. Also, almost a third of all the common conditions could be related to or exacerbated by diet, diet changes or dietary indiscretions.

The most expensive of the common canine conditions in 2007 was benign skin tumors, with an average submitted claim fee of $327. For cats, it was renal failure at $279.

Comments:
Dogs need raw food to maintain their natural health. Out in the wild, dogs kill other animals and eat their raw meat. There is no cooking or factory manufacturing as is seen in dog food today. And there is certainly no left over dinners - something many owners are guilty of indulging their dogs in!

It makes sense that the top issues are skin and liver... Skin is the biggest organ and shows potential internal problems. And of course, liver & kidneys work to flush out toxins... If the body is not getting live enzymes the organs will have to work very hard to clean the body. Wow - raw, fresh food for pets! Ok... I am interested! I would rather pay for good products than another vet bill AND a sick pet to boot!
