About the designer: Thro Home by Marlo Lorenz. THRO is the ideal brand for those wishing to express themselves at home with fun, fashionable and affordable home décor pieces. The zippered outer cover of the Original Bed combines water-resistant 420 denier nylon packcloth with a polyester fleece or faux suede sleeping surface. This outer cover surrounds an inner cushion made of ripstop nylon. The inner cushion is filled with SmartFill™, our 100% recycled fiber. The inner cushion is odor and water-resistant, but if necessary, the inner cushion can be unzipped to remove and wash the SmartFill. Of course, the outer cover and inner cushion are washable as well!

My husband and I have been looking for a waterproof dog bed forever.

This dog bed has exceeded our wildest expectations.

I’ve been on a quest to find something special for my dog to sleep on. So after a search online I was able to source a designer dog bed that looked contemporary. We live in a modern home and refused to put something mediocre in our home. We finally found a nice online resource for designer dog beds online.. Lately I’ve been trying to find something my Weimeraner can chill in while I have my friends over for the game. I looked all over at Petco and various pet stores for large dog beds in San Anotnio. I wasted a whole day on a quest for a large dog bed?

I was almost ready to give up and bam - I found the FatBoy large dog bed. It looked great and even looked nice in the den. So I ordered the large dog bed and it worked great. We took a chance and did the large in chocolate brown. I never thought my niece & nephew would be fighting to sleep on the large dog bed?

This is the coolest dog bed on the market. I just found a dog bed called “Fat Boy” in Camo.

I couldn’t have found a more comfortable dog bed that looks cool in my home. I like the new dog bed so much I am thinking of buying another. Q. Is sleep primarily to benefit the body or the mind?

A. “Sleep has many functions, and most of us think the main functions are not for the body but for the brain,” said Dr. Arthur Spielman, a sleep expert at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hospital and City College of New York.

“But,” he added, “you are talking to a brain scientist, and it depends on whom you ask.’’
The reason sleep occurs in the first place is tied to both mental and physiological cycles that evolved on a planet with a 24-hour cycle of light and dark, Dr. Spielman said.

The internal biological clocks that developed in living things, from single cells to humans, allow them to anticipate the transitions from light to dark and from dark to light, so that they are ready for the functions appropriate to light, like metabolism and photosynthesis, and for those suited to darkness.

“A physiologist might say sleep was to avoid wasting metabolic energy in the dark,’’ he said. “But a brain scientist would say that glycogen, the only fuel for the brain, is depleted during waking and restored during sleep.”

Sleep is useful for restoring particular parts of the brain that are quiet during sleep and return to functioning during waking, like the areas involved in attention, alertness and memory.

Sleep is also important for regulating the timing of hormones under the control of the brain, Dr. Spielman said, like cortisol, the stress-response hormone, which is suppressed at the beginning of sleep and ramps up in anticipation of waking, and growth hormone, which is secreted at night during sleep characterized by slow brain waves.
